The UAE’s strategic objective of Gas Self-sustaining is approaching success swiftly. Thanks to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) that awarded two new contracts for the construction of offshore facilities in their announcement on February 18, 2020. The Dalma Gas Development Project is situated approx. 190 km northwest of Emirates of Abu Dhabi. The Dalma project will be a key part of the Ghasa Ultra-Sour Gas Project that was approved in November 2016 by the Supreme Petroleum Council.
The two (EPC) contracts are worth over $1.65 billion or AED 6.06 billion for Procurement and Construction. The winner of the contracts is UK-based Petrofac Emirates LLC and Malaysia based Sapura Energy Berhad through a joint venture with Petrofac through its company’s branch office in Abu Dhabi. The expected completion date for the contract is 2022.
ADNOC is committed to maximizing value for the United Arab Emirates as it carries its 2030 strategy. These contracts are a clear demonstration of the In-Country Value (ICV) Program because 70% of the total contract value will flow into the UAE’s economy.
Local suppliers, workforce, and sources for material from the UAE market is the priority of both bidders; Petrofac and Sapura Energy. A total of approx. $1.15 billion is expected to pour into the country’s economy.
The Contract is divided into two packages to execute engineering, procurement, and construction; the first package is valued at $591 million, and the second package is valued at $1.065 billion.
ADNOC is a renowned diversified group of petrochemicals and energy. ADNOC has around 14 JV companies and specialist subsidiaries under its umbrella. ADNOC’s primary focus is to contribute to the UAE’s growth and diversification.
Petrofac with around 3000 workforces has offices in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah was established in 1991. Petrofac Emirates has so far executed 11 major EPC projects in the UAE to date.
